Hi, I am new to this forum. I would like to ask a few questions regarding motorhome insurance. Can anyone help?
I am based in Malta, and would like to buy a motorhome from the UK and tour Uk and Europe for around 6 months. I would like to keep it registered in the UK since I would like to start from there not from Malta. The problem that I am facing is how to insure the motorhome since I am a Maltese citizen. Does anyone know of an insurance company for European Citizens? |

Hi zeggy, welcome to the site and motorhoming.
I think the general rule is that you insure in your hom country and then extend it to cover you in other countries.
I know a lot of aussie travellers have a similar problem.
You could try contacting some companies - but unless you have an address in the UK you will struggle I think.
Good Luck

Hi, thanks alot for your suggestions. The problem is that to register it here in Malta it will cost alot. Our registration is in the region of 50-75% of the amount of the motorhome plus other vat and more expenses. We cannot afford to getting it to Malta. We will see how we can go round it.
Thanks again

I fully understand your dilema Zeggy.
Been trying to get insurance for Americans to ride my motorcycle here for years, and no go I'm afraid.
Only chance is to gain a residential address in UK, to use for this particular purpose or, contact the many insurers here and ask direct.
It may be you will have to go online to somewhere like the Caravan Club website, which has much sponsorship from Insurers, and search them. _________________ Learned fire fighting in 1956, still involved in Education for the professionals in that field, plus running m/bike related groups, and other gentlemanly pursuits, and travel well, like good wine. |

We are interested in this qustion too.
We have been thinking (dreaming ?) about bringig our motorhome to Europe.
Australian insurers are not permitted to insure a risk outside of Australia.
We have friends in Europe that could be our address.
Does anyone know if a European address is OK for insurance, even if you are not a 'resident'.
Are any countries in Europe easier than any others?
Cheers,

I have been in the habit of taking my motorcycle across to Canada & USA for a few years now, and get insured through a firm in NY State, who are specialists in that field. Never been a problem.
Now I am wondering if any of the major players in UK Motorhome insurance would be at all able to take on the challenge.
There must be a way, even if the premium is highish !
I do recall one UK insurer, "Carole Nash" who volunteered to give cover for at least 6 months, if the person had proof on a good insurance record and appropriate licence. For an American motorcyclist, I must add.
Might be a good idea to throw out the question to other motorhome forums. _________________ Learned fire fighting in 1956, still involved in Education for the professionals in that field, plus running m/bike related groups, and other gentlemanly pursuits, and travel well, like good wine. |
